For the First Thousand Years of Christianity, There Was One Church
For the first millennium of Christianity, the Church remained unified. That unity changed in 1054 AD, when a major split occurred between the Church of Rome and the Church of Constantinople—an event known as the Great Schism. From that point forward, the Christian communities in Eastern Europe became known as the Orthodox Church, while those in Western Europe came to be called the Roman Catholic Church. Today, Orthodox Christianity is predominant in regions such as Greece, the Balkans, Russia, the Middle East, and northeastern Africa.
In several countries—like Greece and Russia—the Orthodox Church is recognized as the national church. In countries without a state church, such as the United States, Orthodox parishes are often identified by the heritage of their founders. Despite these cultural differences, Orthodox Christianity is united in its worship, theology, church architecture, and the use of sacred icons. We welcome you to explore our newly built church and discover the rich meaning behind its design, history, and spiritual symbolism.
About Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church
On December 2, 1929 the Greek Orthodox Society, Holy Trinity, was incorporated. In 1962, property was acquired on West Concord Street in downtown Orlando and in 1963 the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of North and South America issued an Ecclesiastical Charter and assigned a full time priest. The current location of Holy Trinity was purchased in 1980 and services were held in the Chris Carlos Cultural Center in 1987. September 8, 1990 the first services were held in the new Holy Trinity Church and on August 17, Holy Trinity broke ground on a new cultural center, that marked another major milestone in the life of our parish. On June 16, 2013, the Sanctuary was Consecrated by His Eminence Metropolitan Alexios of Atlanta. Currently, there are over 650 active families.
